To start, the zoo is massive. We saw almost every animal under the sun (well, that might be a bit of an exaggeration) and none were camera shy. Unfortunately we did not complete the entire trek due to a sweetly slow morning and tired feet. The parts that we did see however were more than I expected.
It was a grey day when we woke up which only seems ominous when heading to the zoo but in fact the animals relished the break from the sweltering heat and pranced and posed for everyone. At the lion pit a male came right up to the glass and yawned to show off his massive teeth. The gorillas beat their chests in true Kong fashion. The clouded leopard made laps around his cage to show off his coat. The myriad of birds in the Asian aviary were fearless of the stampede of visitors that came through the doors to their sanctuary.
Spring was definitely in the air. The gazelles were frisky and the elephants were downright hot and bothered. We were placing bets on how hung the male was. (I think we decided on about four feet.)
My day trip to Miami was successful to say the least. From a camel ride with Robyn to a new pair of headphones I would do it all again in a heart beat.
*I don't have nearly enough room on one post to share all the pictures we took but I will be posting new ones as I see fit.
